TROPHY FOR EAGLES
Walter J. Boyne
Colonel Walter J. Boyne, coauthor of The Wild Blue, here explores the golden age of aviation: the years from 1927 to 1937, when flying airplanes developed from an art to a craft and building them evolved from a craft to an industry. While peopled with historical characters such as Lindbergh, Howard Hughes and Ernst Udet, the relationship between two pilots, American Frank Bandfield and expatriate German Bruno Hafner, is at the novel's heart; their rivalry is the thread on which Boyne strings his vignettes.

Giant Scale R/C Air Racing: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!
THE Aviation place: www.kbvp.com From full out air racing to mid-air and landing mishaps, this video presents a look at Giant Scale Radio Control Air Racing. These planes are BIG and can weigh up to thirty pounds and have a wing span over eight feet. The cost to built these monsters can range from five to fifteen thousand dollars! Just like their full scale counterparts, these teams and pilots are dedicated to winning. The action in the air is very tense with speeds approaching 150 mph and just a few feet from the ground. The G forces on the scale planes are so high that structural failures occur. A 30 pound plane can weigh near a 1000 pounds in the turn! These are experienced pilots, but things do go wrong. From take off to landing, these planes require the utmost in skill to win.

Reason at 0:55 Nevada air racing crash 2011.
The plane, flown by a 74-year-old veteran Hollywood stunt pilot, then slammed into the tarmac in front of VIP box seats and blew to pieces The pilot and two spectators were killed and more than 50 were injured amid a horrific scene strewn with smoking debris.Authorities said it appears a mechanical failure with the P-51 Mustang — a class of fighter plane that can fly in excess of 500 mph — was to blame.
